I did not attend a Baptist Church when I was a child. I was raised by Scottish Presbyterians. We children knew the catechisms from an early age but we were seeing Baptists on TV all the time. Why was this personal application of the Bible shortcutting the actual text for? Eve was disappointed in God. She listened to how disappointed Satan was in him. Paul admitted that women are more easily disappointed by God. We want God to be perfect just as we want our children to be perfect. He is. Yet we cannot change or move God the way we can change or move about our children. He is glorious and unchangeable for a reason. We must change the our glorified selves (the ones God really meant us to be). We must refer our lives to Christ and be united by faith to him to be progressively changed by the Water and The Word.
Nancy Guthrie came to know the collegial system of Presbyterians and Covenant Redemptive Historical Biblical Theology just as I had learned it. We are so enriched by the depth of understanding it brings. I recommend reading Nancy’s story by Sarah Eekhoff Zylstra but my own story is not ready to write. There are just too many details.
